Rare, and highly collectible antique English Staffordshire earthenware puzzle jug, decorated in hand-colored black transferware featuring Joe Cashmore (Grimaldi the Clown), a well-known circus clown of his day. A popular 18/19th century “party” game, the jug was filled with wine, and passed around the table as they anxiously awaited for someone who had one too many, was passed the jug, and one of the holes was forgotten, spilling the contents of the jug all over their their lap.
